His story: Dennis comes from a very unfortunate situation. We met him in the Masaka hospital on the 10th of May. He was there with his grandmother who brought him after his mother had badly beaten him and abandoned him to his grandmother. His mother was angry with Dennis’s father and continuously took it out on her little boy. He has burns and scars on almost every part of his body from his mother. After meeting him and understanding his situation, we decided to take him to a better hospital where he could get more treatment because despite his cuts and bruises, Dennis was very very sick. He spent 10 days admitted in the hospital with one of our matrons. During that time we contacted the father and received permission to take Dennis to Okoa. Now Dennis will be safe, cared for, and loved more than he could imagine.

Steve

About him: Steve is from Kampala. He is friends with David’s family, which is how he heard about Okoa. He is a great cook and says he learned from David’s older sister. He is hard working and prompt with meal time! He enjoys listening to music and “facebooking”. Steve is a very friendly guy, and Okoa is thankful to have him be a part of our team!

Kato

His Story: Kato and his twin sisters are the siblings or Linda and Irene who are also at Okoa. They were living with their grandmother but she recently fell sick and gave them back to their father. Their mother is epileptic and has other mental issues. Their father, who loves them and wants to care for them, is unable to do so because of his work and being HIV+ is required to be at the hospital often. His only option would be to leave them locked in their house. Okoa decided to take in these little ones to provide them with proper care and love to give them the best future possible.

Babyire

Her Story: Babyire and her twin brother, Kato, are the siblings of Linda and Irene, who are also at Okoa. Their mother is an epileptic with other mental issues, and their father is HIV+ and loves them very much, but he is unable to care for them while working and taking care of his medical needs. Their mother was caring for them, but she recently fell sick. The father contacted Okoa to see if there was a possibility of taking them as well. Both Babyire and Kato are a welcome addition to the Okoa family!

About Him: Tendo is the hardest working man. He does an excellent job maintaining the compound and caring for the chickens. Tendo is from Masaka and lives with his family. He started working for Okoa in order to provide for his wife and two children.

Her story: Susan is from Kampala. She graduated with a degree in catering in 2010. She is great with the children and an awesome cook! She enjoys listening to music, reading books, and playing with the children.

About Her: Ruth is from Kampala. She came to work for Okoa because of her love for children, and she has already proved herself to be an extremely hard working lady. She enjoys tailoring and doing hair and make-up in her free time. Ruth is part of the Baby Home team which takes shifts to care for our youngest children.
