Reach & Rescue One More

Kind, generous, and incredible partners are the reason Okoa Refuge is able to continue working in Uganda and East Africa. Helping others discover radical love and redemption is a team sport. From supporting affordable healthcare to empowering families to stay together, read below to learn about the many opportunities to jump in! Will you partner with us?

Mobilize a Missionary

Many Okoa Refuge Bible School graduates become long-term missionaries around Uganda and across East Africa. After completing Bible School, these leaders complete a special training, Perspectives in World Missions, with the help of our wonderful partners at Way of Salvation. Finally, they are sent out and cared for by WOS’s team! You can partner with our indigenous missionaries monthly or annually as they share the Gospel with their community or the hundreds of unreached people groups on the African continent.

Bible Schools

Okoa Refuge’s Bible School’s 2-year intensive program equips leaders to impact their spheres of influence and produces pastors. Every church should have a qualified pastor, but attending an accredited Bible College or Seminary is not an option for many. This inspired the creation of the Bible School, and to date, over 1,700 have graduated! Okoa has nearly 100 Bible Schools across Uganda and neighboring countries, with a curriculum provided by Harvest Time International. You can support operations for one month or one year—you can even help by simply purchasing Bibles!

Church Plants

To date, Okoa has planted over 750 churches! To plant a church, Bible School students apply, and land is provided by the community. Next, Okoa provides poles, roofing materials, and a construction team. Churches are governed by indigenous church associations. Okoa helps Ugandans establish these associations, which provide Biblical oversight and accountability. Okoa also directly supports church health, caring for pastors, pastors’ families, and congregations. You can partner with us with a gift that helps supply building materials and manpower to build churches anywhere the Gospel takes us!

Child Rescue Program

Okoa’s Residential Child Rescue Center is truly special, but we believe no child should have to grow up in an institution! When a child arrives at Okoa, our staff develops an individualized exit strategy for that child, prioritizing health, safety, and nurturing. This means tracing relatives or connecting with local adoptive families to help secure a child’s future. You can partner with us by joining a child’s Care Team on a monthly basis or annually. When you join a child’s Care Team, you become a critical part of the journey to help a child find their forever family.

Disability Program

Okoa’s Family & Disability Program partners with families as they grow to confidently lead, provide, and care for their children with disabilities and/or significant medical needs. You can partner with us on a monthly or annually to cover surgery costs, provide medicines and therapies, and supply specialized and custom assistive devices. Your partnership also champions parents as they pursue vocations (for financial stability), grow in positive parenting skills, create the best environments for their children to thrive, and connect with other families. This is the essence of orphan prevention!

Gender-based Violence Shelters

When a contract ended with an organization that ran a GBV shelter, the Ugandan government requested Okoa take over, ensuring vital services for survivors escaping sex work, trafficking, and abuse continued. Our survivor-first approach includes emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual care to best support reintegrating back into society in safe, healthy ways. Through monthly or annual support, you can partner with us to rescue a survivor, fund the arrests of perpetrators, pay for court fees, or build a new shelter.

Community Empowerment Program

Since 2013, more than 1,000 families have been impacted through vocational training, education, and our extremely successful microfinance loan program. Our Community Empowerment Program (CEP) model utilizes churches as community anchors to create job opportunities. Together, we link arms to build dreams and restore dignity. You can partner with an entire Ugandan community (that’s about 50 families) monthly or annually to provide school fees, skill/vocation development, meals, recreation, and programming focused on cognitive, physical, socio-emotional, and spiritual growth.

House of Joy Hospital

House of Joy Hospital provides the under-resourced with affordable, quality healthcare. Okoa believes all people should have access to a lab, trained medical professionals, and a full pharmacy to meet their needs. We’re humbled to continue building our patient volume and reputation within the village and greater Masaka. By partnering with House of Joy on a monthly basis, you can fund minor surgeries. You can also support some of our littlest rescues by helping treat a malnourished child—where treatment can be the difference between life and death!

Community Project: Well Drilling

In 2023, access to clean, drinkable water is still not a reality for over 700 million people in the world—including many living in rural Uganda. Access to clean water directly impacts education, health, and even employment! You can partner with Okoa to drill wells and bring the gift of clean water to villages in Masaka.

Keep Okoa Moving Forward

Since 2008, Okoa has worked to meet the people of Uganda where they are, to solve problems that they identify, with solutions they suggest. It’s inspiring to hear the stories of impact. Yet, the administrative and operational nuts and bolts it takes to bring the vision to life are many! As our work expands, we need committed partners to keep Okoa moving forward! You can partner with us monthly or annually to meet “behind the scenes” needs like outfitting nurseries and classrooms, constructing cafeterias, acquiring printers, office items, laptops, phones, security cameras, and more.
